Commerce, GA (September 13, 2019) – Police claim that a woman from Cornelia was critically injured and later died from a car crash that took place on GA-15 in Commerce. Her aunt also passed away due to the same crash.
At the time, police say that a 71-year-old retired teacher was driving an SUV in the area at the time when her vehicle collided with another around 8:37 a.m. this morning at the intersection of GA-15 and US-441. Her 87-year-old aunt was in her vehicle at the time of the collision.
The SUV collided with a Cadillac at the time, sending the SUV off the side of the road and into a ditch. Both vehicles were heavily damaged. All occupants in both vehicles were trapped and had to be extricated by emergency responders.
The 87-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene while the 71-year-old woman was critically injured. She was taken to the hospital and later passed away due to her severe injuries. Various other parties were injured in the crash.
The driver of the Cadillac has since been identified as an 18-year-old from Tiger. He was injured and hospitalized due to the accident.
The investigation into the accident remains active at this time.
