Villa Rica, GA – Update: Parties Identified After Fatal Crash on I-20

Villa Rica, GA (September 23, 2019) – Around 9:17 a.m. on Friday morning, September 23, police were originally called to the scene of a fatal crash on I-20 in Villa Rica. Now, the parties involved and the cause of the collision are known.

Cobb County Police discovered that a 33-year-old man had been driving east on I-20 in his Kia Forte. He was approaching the Chattahoochee River when a large commercial vehicle suddenly came up over the concrete jersey wall from the westbound lanes and struck the windshield of the Kia. The U-joint went through the Kia’s windshield, where it struck the man in the face and killed him.

The Kia then went to the right, where it collided with the rear corner of a Nissan Versa driven by a 20-year-old woman. The Nissan spun and also ran into a jersey barrier wall. The Nissan then traveled backward, where it collided with a stopped red Jeep Cherokee driven by a 26-year-old woman.

The driver of the Kia was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. The woman driving the Nissan was immediately taken to Grady Hospital for treatment of her injuries. No other parties were injured in this crash.

Investigators have not yet filed any charges and their investigation into the accident is ongoing.

We would like to offer our sincere condolences to the family of the party whose life was taken in this accident. Our thoughts are with them at this time.
