Newnan, GA (September 15, 2019) – Police believe that a fiery accident that took the life of one individual this morning might have happened due to drunk driving.
Authorities responded to the scene around 5 a.m. this morning, September 15. A 27-year-old man from Harris County was killed in the accident on I-85.
The crash took place when the driver of a Pontiac G6 was traveling southbound and struck a Kia sedan that was parked in the emergency lane of the highway. The Georgia State Patrol confirmed that the vehicles both continued off the side of the road and came to a rest before some trees.
Both vehicles immediately caught on fire. The occupant of the Kia, the 27-year-old man, was killed at the scene of the crash. The driver of the Pontiac was able to escape.
The driver of the Pontiac was later found to have been intoxicated at the time of the accident. He has since been charged with DUI.
The investigation continues at this time.
