Homer, GA (September 14, 2019) – On Friday morning around 8:37 a.m., two women from Cornelia were killed in a fatal crash at the intersection of GA-15 and Old Highway 441.
The crash involved two vehicles and took the life of a 71-year-old woman and 87-year-old woman. At the time, the 71-year-old woman was driving a Honda Pilot SUV traveling east on Old 441. She stopped for the stop sign and then attempted to cross southbound lanes.
Suddenly, the SUV was struck in the side by a black Cadillac Escalade traveling south, driven by an 18-year-old man. The man told police that the SUV pulled out slowly and he steered right in order to avoid a collision.
Both vehicles went off the side of the road with force. All parties in the SUV were trapped in the vehicle and had to be extricated by emergency services. The two were pronounced dead.
One other person was injured in the accident and hospitalized.
Police continue to investigate the circumstances leading up to the accident.
