Hahira, GA (September 21, 2019) – Police confirmed that one person was killed and two were injured in a fatal accident that took place after a high-speed chase in Hahira.
The incident started when police discovered that a vehicle had been stolen in Columbus. Deputies attempted to stop the driver when they were spotted, but the vehicle took off and headed south on I-75. The vehicle finally got off an exit and ended up on GA-122 going 150 miles per hour.
Police claim that the vehicle went airborne and rolled a few times before it came to rest directly in front of the Bigfoot Travel Center. The vehicle allegedly went over a concrete barrier.
There had been a woman sitting in front of the travel center at the time who was injured due to the accident. Police claim that there were two occupants in the vehicle. The passenger was killed while the 16-year-old driver was injured and taken to the hospital by medical helicopter.
Police continue to investigate the circumstances leading up to the accident.
